Vitruvi is derived from the Roman architect Vitruvius, best known as the author of "De Architectura", the only preserved reference work on Roman architecture.

Vitruvius is celebrated to this day for his vision of perfect proportions, and even Leonardo da Vinci based his drawing, the "Vitruvian Man", on these principles. According to Vitruvius, a building must meet three core values: firmitas, utilitas, and venustas—translated as strength, functionality, and beauty.
