As part of a design competition, our team, in collaboration with Chapter George and Meta, participated in the challenge to revitalize the area surrounding the former Sint-Vincentius Hospital. With this project, we aim not only to expand the Begijnhofpark and create new sightlines between the Church of Our Lady, the Begijnhof, and Abby, the new contemporary art museum in Kortrijk, but also to contribute to a cohesive urban landscape.
The demolition of the hospital has left a large vacant site that exposes the park to the less appealing rear facades of Groeningestraat, weakening the visual structure of the park due to the absence of surrounding buildings. To address this issue, a new building is essential. Our proposal for a mixed residential project, including both private and social housing, provides a strong urban framework, restoring harmony to the park and its surroundings.
